On October 13, 2013, Trooper Steinkamp displayed an ability to quickly assess an emergency situation, understand and accept the danger to which he would be exposed to in recovering a person from a watery canal in the dark of night. Trooper Steinkamp entered the water, teathered only by his belt, and successfully recovered a severely injured motorcyclist who had been thrown into the canal as a result of a crash.


	On October 13, 2013, Trooper Steinkamp displayed an ability to quickly assess an emergency situation, understand and accept the danger to which he would be exposed to in recovering a person from a watery canal in the dark of night. Trooper Steinkamp entered the water, teathered only by his belt, and successfully recovered a severely injured motorcyclist who had been thrown into the canal as a result of a crash.
Trooper Steinkamp initiated and continued CPR, with the assistance of a Hollywood police officer, until the arrival of paramedics. The victim did not survive due to the extent of the injuries but Trooper Steinkamp's courage in the presence of danger and his ability to quickly assess such siutation is worthy of praise.
